In early stages, AGA can be treated using oral medicines like finasterides or dutasteride that reduces the effect of androgen on hair follicles without affecting circulating levels of androgens.

1. What is male patterned baldness ?

Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is most common type of alopecia in men. More than 50% of all men above the age of 50 and more than 70% of all men above the age 70 will be affected by male pattern baldness or AGA to some extent. It is considered as an unwanted and stressful condition and it affects self-confidence of an individual.
2. What causes AGA?

As name suggests, AGA is caused by male sexual hormone called androgen. AGA begins as hair loss above the temples and at the vertex of scalp. With increasing age there is progressive loss of hair and ultimately a rim of hair at the sides and rear of head remains; rarely it progresses to complete baldness.
